Carl's Place was first started as a way to supply projector screen fabric as a raw material to the do-it-yourself community. However, as word spread that blackout cloth could be obtained here in very large sizes, I started to receive more and more inquiries from people all over who were looking for a more finished product. Though the folks in the DIY community have come up with some very impressive screens, not everybody has the resources available to turn a raw material into a finished product. So, I decided I should offer a screen that would help those people get started!
The consensus from the comments I received seemed to be that people were looking for a screen that had grommets all along the edge, so that they could easily tie it to a building or fence, or so they could stretch it between a large frame with bungee cords or rope. However, blackout cloth requires reinforcement to hold grommets, and few people have the sewing capabilities or materials to make the required reinforcements at home. So, I have come up with the products you see offered below.
The screens listed below all have a 2.5" wide black vinyl border wrapped around the edges. Between the layers of the vinyl, a nylon webbing is sewn to make the edges more rigid and to give the grommets plenty to grab. The grommets are installed through the border (so, through 4 layers altogether) and spaced about 12" apart. This will allow a nice, even tension to be applied to the screen without any waves appearing near the edges.
A notice about wind: When you have a large piece of fabric hanging up in the air, remember that wind is a powerful force of nature! Please make sure your screen is properly anchored. Carl's Place cannot be held responsible for damage to or resulting from screens that are left out in the wind!
