I ordered a really big Standing Kit with FlexiWhite Screen for my backyard to take our movie nights to the next level. Carl's screen outperformed even my wildest expectations. We supply you with the screen, fittings, and bungees needed to make a basic frame that can be placed in the backyard, out by the pool, on a stage, or anywhere else (indoors, too)! Just pick up a few pipes from your local store, follow our directions, and you'll be rolling with a big screen like no other!

Materials:The foundation of a brag-worthy theater system is starting with the right screen material, so check out our article to help you select the right material for your environment's specific lighting situation, or see our quick summary below specifically geared for outdoor use.
All of the following materials work best in a dark to low light setting.
White Materials
- FlexiWhite: An excellent material for all-around use, it's flexible and easy to fold for storage in-between uses (and readily stretches back out again to get rid of fold lines and wrinkles), making it a very versatile projection screen material! Easy to install over wood frames, it's a popular choice as a hanging projector screen. Its PVC construction makes it popular with the outdoor crowd as well!
- Blackout Cloth: The material that started it all! Blackout cloth is still a popular choice for budget screen builders. It's very smooth, flexible, covers a large surface area, and it's inexpensive, making for a perfect mini drive-in screen!
Gray Materials
- FlexiGray: Just like FlexiWhite, but tinted slightly gray, making it perfect for minor issues with ambient light.
Rear Projection
- White Rear Film: Very similar to our gray rear film, our white rear film is more opaque, which helps make the images more uniform when paired with brighter projectors. Slightly dimmer than gray rear film but more even in its light distribution, making it a great choice in dark environments.
- Gray Rear Film: Translucent and slightly gray, it will give you the brightest image available in a rear projection material, which is great for environments with some ambient light. In dark environments, however, care must be taken to avoid hotspots. Avoid projectors that are too bright or that project in direct line-of-sight to the viewer.
Acoustically Transparent
- Nano FlexiWhite/FlexiGray: Our Nano material is just like our Flexi material but with very small holes, resulting in a 7% open surface to let sound through. This perforated projection screen is ideal for an audience sitting closer to the screen.
Specialty Purpose
- SilverScreen: Specifically designed for passive 3D applications, the high gain of this flexible screen helps maintain the polarity of a projected image.

1-inch EMT (Electrical Metal Tubing/Conduit) is required to complete these frames. EMT steel pipe can be found at any local hardware store such as Home Depot or Lowe's. Your kit will include all details on what lengths and quantities of EMT are required.
For Rear Projection:Currently, Rear Projection Film in this frame style only comes in the two smaller sizes due to the support poles in the back of larger sizes which would cast a shadow on a rear-projected image. For additional Rear Projection Film Kit options, see our Truss Style Frame Kit.

Our Movie Screen is Awesome!! I just wanted to share a picture with you of the finished screen that we bought from Carl's Place. We purchased the kit with the screen, instructions and connector fittings. Then went to Home Depot and got the 1" EMT bars. It turned out great. The first time the screen was used was at my son's graduation party. Then we used it again last night for another movie with friends. We're looking forward to using it at the cabin in July and hopefully in the fall again to watch the Vikings / Packers game. Thanks for making such a good product.

Great product, detailed instructions, rapid shipping, great customer service when making inquiries. I was a little intimidated when I opened the box. However, the clear, color coded instructions made cutting the conduit and assembling the framework straight forward. Attaching my large FlexiWhite 6.75x12 screen was easier than I thought it would be. My only regret is that I didn't purchase this a long time ago.

My FlexiWhite screen standing at 9x16-Ft is a monster – I love it! This screen has a very sturdy base and despite using EMT tube for the rails it looks good. I marked each pole and connection piece with matching color electrical tape. After building it a few times my setup time for the screen is about 20 minutes with 2 people or 15 minutes with 3 people. The screens viewing angle is wide and pulls nicely taught with the supplied bungee cords.
