The Trackman iO is built for indoor golf. It mounts overhead, keeps the floor clear and uses both radar and cameras to measure your shots. That makes it an interesting option for a home golf simulator or a commercial bay, but the right software package and room layout matter as much as the launch monitor itself.
The overhead placement is a big part of the appeal. There's no unit on the floor behind the golfer, and the iO is designed specifically for an indoor hitting area. Trackman 4 is still the more flexible choice if you want to take the same launch monitor to the range. We'll compare the two below.

One of the more interesting things about the iO is how it measures a shot. It isn't strictly a camera-based or radar-based launch monitor. Trackman combines high-speed cameras with Doppler radar and uses each for the measurements it does best. The cameras capture visual details and angles, while radar contributes speed and depth information. Together, they let the iO measure spin rate and 3D spin axis indoors.
The iO also supplies its own infrared light, so the cameras aren't relying on your simulator's room lighting to see the club and ball. It doesn't require stickers on the club or specially marked golf balls. And when the system starts, it automatically calibrates its target line using a pattern projected on the screen. Those details matter when you want to walk into the bay and hit without a bunch of prep first.

For a home setup, the choice is between the Home and Home Complete software subscriptions. The same iO hardware is at the center of both; what changes is the data and software you can use. Commercial installations have a separate commercial offering.

Home is a solid fit if you're mostly playing courses and practicing with ball flight feedback. Home Complete makes more sense if you want the full course and game library or plan to dig into face angle, club path, impact location and swing analysis. Trackman includes the first year of software with the iO; check the current subscription details when you choose a package.
Trackman Performance Studio (TPS) handles the golf side: range sessions, course play, practice modes, games and, depending on the subscription, more detailed shot and swing analysis. The software is a big part of what you're buying, especially if your simulator will be used for more than hitting balls on a range.
For a commercial venue, look beyond the course list. Trackman's facility tools can help operators manage bays, bookings, payments and usage analytics. Availability and setup depend on the commercial software and services you choose, so confirm the details for your location rather than assuming they're part of a Home subscription.

The iO sits on the ceiling in front of the hitting position, so it doesn't need floor space behind the golfer the way Trackman 4 does. That doesn't mean the room has no requirements. You still need a comfortable, safe swing, enough distance to the impact screen and a ceiling height that works with your particular iO version.
Trackman specifies a minimum of 8'2" from tee to screen and recommends 10' for comfort and safety. Carl's Place also recommends planning for at least 10' between your ball and screen where the room allows. For the overall room, Trackman's planning guidance is about 15' wide, 10' high and 18' deep for a comfortable simulator setup. Those are planning recommendations, not universal installation minimums.
Many Trackman iO setups fall within the 9'4" to 10' ceiling height range. If yours does, our mounting requirements diagram below is a useful starting point. It covers the Mid configuration, with height measured from the hitting surface to the ceiling.
Trackman also offers a Low configuration for heights from 8'10" to 9'6" and a High configuration for heights from 9'10" to 10'6". Low is available for the standard iO; Mid and High are available for both the iO and iO Duo. Because the ranges overlap, check your unit version and Trackman's mounting specifications before placing the mount and tee. This is especially important if you're close to the limits of your ceiling height.
Need both right- and left-handed players in a narrow bay? Ask about the Trackman iO Duo. Trackman says it can accommodate both in bays as narrow as 10 feet, but the full room still needs to work for each player's swing and the chosen enclosure.

A 4K setup has higher GPU requirements. Trackman also says TPS does not support AMD processors or GPUs, Intel Iris Xe graphics or ARM hardware. Check Trackman's current PC specifications before buying a computer, since these requirements can change with the software.
Both can anchor a Trackman golf simulator, but they solve different setup problems. The iO is a fixed overhead installation for indoor use. Trackman 4 is portable, works indoors and outdoors, and needs more depth when used in a simulator.

For a permanent indoor bay where floor space is valuable, we'd start with the iO. If you also need a launch monitor for outdoor sessions or want Trackman 4's broader data and putting tools, the 4 deserves a closer look. Room measurements and the way you'll actually use it should decide this one.
