Getting electronics up and out of the swing path is one of the trickier parts of an indoor golf simulator build.
Overhead mounting keeps your launch monitor, projector, and lights out of the swing path and positions everything at the right distance from the screen and hitting area. It also keeps the floor clean, which matters more than people expect once they're actually swinging a club indoors.
If you're still deciding which launch monitor is right for your space, start with our golf simulator launch monitor guide. It covers ceiling height requirements, room depth, and which units are built for overhead mounting.
Carl's Place has solutions for each of the main overhead mounting approaches. The right one depends on your enclosure, your ceiling, and what you're mounting.
Frame mounting means attaching your gear directly to your enclosure's frame, no ceiling hardware required. It works if you're using a frame with 2" EMT pipes, don't try it with the 1" EMT, too flimsy. Carl's Pro and Curved Enclosure's both use 2" EMT pipes and people like it because everything is self-contained, up out of the way.
For the Pro Enclosure, Carl's offers a Moveable Crossbar that gives you flexibility over placement. Primarily for an overhead launch monitor, but it works just as well for overhead lighting or other electronics.
Our Customer Service Team can help you work through positioning for multiple electronics or custom setups.
Ceiling mounting anchors your electronics directly to the ceiling of your room. It's a good option when you have a dedicated simulator space and want a permanent, fixed installation that doesn't depend on the enclosure frame.
Most ceiling-mounted launch monitors have specific height requirements above the hitting area - check your launch monitor's user guide for the exact specs before you commit to a mounting position.
Drop mounts suspend your projector or other electronics from the ceiling at a lower height than a direct ceiling mount allows.
They're especially useful in rooms with higher ceilings where a direct ceiling mount would put the projector too far up. Carl's adjustable drop mounts attach to the ceiling and let you dial in the exact hang height you need.
Overhead launch monitors mount above and typically in front of the hitting area. They keep the floor clear, work well for both right and left handed golfers without repositioning, and give a dedicated simulator room a clean, finished look.
Carl's Place sells custom mounts for many ceiling-mounted launch monitors that attach directly to the enclosure frame or crossbar. Each launch monitor has specific placement requirements relative to the hitting area - position your crossbar or ceiling mount accordingly. With the Moveable Crossbar on the Pro Enclosure, you can dial in that position without being locked into a fixed location.
Position your overhead launch monitor according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Confirm the required mounting height, distance from the ball and alignment before securing the crossbar or ceiling mount. Our Customer Service Team is happy to walk you through your exact scenario and setup.
Most golf simulator projectors are ceiling mounted, often about 4 feet behind the tee, and positioned to fill the screen cleanly from that distance. Ceiling and drop mounts are the most common approach.
The Moveable Crossbar is also compatible with projector mounts for frame mounting on the Pro Enclosure, but your enclosure would have to be pretty deep to accommodate the throw distance of most projectors. Throw distance and throw ratio determine how far back the projector needs to sit to fill your screen, in a shallow enclosure, the frame may not put the projector far enough back to get the image size you want. See our full guide on where to mount your golf simulator projector for the details.
Projectors with keystone correction are a Carl's Place favorite because they give the freedom to mount the projector off-center. It makes for easy projector setup to get an aligned image.
Overhead lighting is one of the more overlooked parts of a simulator build. Good lighting above the hitting area makes the space more usable, especially in garages or basements without natural light. The Moveable Crossbar on the Pro Enclosure works great for overhead lighting since it puts the light source exactly where you need it without requiring any ceiling hardware.
For a full breakdown on lighting options and placement, see our golf simulator lighting guide.
The Curved Enclosure uses the same 2" EMT pipe frame and supports overhead electronics mounting via ceiling and drop mounts. But the crossbar has to be built in a fixed position with the frame. Our Customer Service Team can walk you through mounting options for your specific Curved setup.
